    It'll ask you to upload a picture of the font.
    Then you have to verify letters.
    It should tell you the exact font, or something really close to it.

    Could you buy a digital version in the 60s? Could you buy an OpenType version in the 90s?

    How do you think these typefaces and versions were created?

    There are many typefaces that have never been digitised, there is little motivation to do this for free – there is a lot of work involved in digitising a typeface, far more than scanning a sample and hit the trace button for 256 characters. You might respond that some typefaces deserve not to be digitised.

    So how about new ones developed in the last few years, they are not yet in demand so what pays for their development?

    And what pays for new technologies that makes type easier to handle or more inclusive for non-Latin users?

    The sale of classic typefaces like Helvetica and AkGrot.

    btw Just because some typefaces are bundled with OSs and software that does not mean that you have not paid for them.
