Ark Linux Download

  1. Why are my download speeds so slow when I use Ark Linux. 2007-01-01 06:41:03

This would be a great question for the ARK website forum! I would first suspect the packet size!

Just like in Microsoft windows, in ARK Linux, you can go into the control panel and tweak some options! Packet size should be 1500!

You might have tweaked something, without realizing the consequences!

My experiences with GNU/Linux, since 1997, are that it runs upto 50X faster, out of the box!

I run http://pclinuxos.com and get 10MB/s speeds on Road Runner (Central Florida)! The actual through-put of the one MS XP Pro system here is a bit lower (have over a dozen Linux, MAC, and *BSD computers online at the same time!), and I suspect the difference in speeds here is due to all the protection 'worn' by Microsoft so it remains virus protected...

Funny, and a bit of an aside, is that 100% of all virus, and spam, is generated by Microsoft OSes! Microsoft is now running ALL websites, routers, firewalls, on GNU/Linux. That's 45,000 computers on Hotmail.com (since 1997), MSN.com, and Microsoft.com!

  1. How do I download and install programs on Linux? 2009-04-12 20:18:40

If the programs you are referring to aren't supported by Linux then unless you install wine you wont be able to install them BUT there are thousands of free programs you can install completely free
If you have Ubuntu or Mint the procedure is the same just set out a little differently
    Mint
Click on start /control centre/under system click on synaptic packages then choose from the huge range available
    Ubuntu
    Click on system/administration/synaptic package manager
On both you can update what you have by clicking on Update Manager

In a little while when you find you way about you will be glad you made the change There are many programs that are not necessary with Linux Firewall Anti virus Anti spy ware Fragment Just to name a few
