    Antennas are resonant on a certain frequency, and adding random copper wire may in fact make it worse. Random chance is that it may improve it, but most likely it may not help much.
    If the existing antennas can be detached (un-screwed), you can get external antennas to add to it, they will work better. Look for a "omni directional" antenna if just looking at desktop to wireless router enhancement...

    It sounds as if you might have a corrupted file. You may have to un-install the whole thing and start over again, loading each in order as asked for. Here on this link are some sites that can assist you with the wildpacket drivers:
