  1. What do you of my character's Dursley-like Foster Family? 2012-01-03 12:04:50

Change the name of the town. Especially since the family is, "Dursley like," that is way to close to Little Whinging. Otherwise, your characterization is excellent. You could make a great story using these characters.

  1. How does this Dursley-like family sound for my story? 2012-05-03 12:57:02

I think "Dursley-like" already defined your question in my mind.
You want to write a family like the Dursleys, but not the Dursleys. You've varied it up a little, but the character interactions are still going to be the same between the three characters whose personalities you have taken from your source text. If you want something boldly original, I'd advise stepping away from the comfort of what you know to be true... don't base three of your characters on three of the Dursleys. People will recognize it as the Dursley family plus two.
Drawing on other sources is something writers have to do, whether consciously or not, but we need to vary these source inspirations if we want to create something unique. After all, as Einstein supposedly said, "Creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."
