   First of all you have to know what version of yahoo messenger you are using. 6.0 , 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, and 8.5.
   If you do not know how to find out what build of messenger you have click on help at the top of the messenger itself and then on that drop down menu click on "about yahoo messenger"
   Once you know what version you have you download this version to your new computer. All of your friends will still be on your messenger list. BUT you will have to redo some of the settings. LIke your font colors and the size and shape of your fonts. How your friends name appear on your messenger ect.... Also Messenger will be set back to default for singing in too so you willl have to tell it again if you want to sing in as invisible and weather or not you want yahoo insider to show up when you sing in.
   You will in effect LOSE nothing but you will have to taylor it back to your personal look and feel.
   IMPORTANT::::::::: if you do not have the 8.5 messenger and you want the exact same messenger you already have click this link and find your same messenger here http://www.oldversion.com look in the left hand side and to the bottom and click on messenger then you will be taken to a page with all the different builds on it and you can choose from there.
   One nice Thing that I personally find is that if you click on save when downloading messenger rather than on run you can save this downloader to your documents and you will always have the installer in your documents and you'll never have to re-download your favorite version of messenger again. You can burn that installer along with the program itself to a disc if you have a cd burner and then you will have your copy always at your disposial.
