    Most of those conversion packs do change system dlls. I like to try custom stuff, but I draw the line at anything that changes the sytem like that.

    Yeah, I get tempted. But I've been badly burned in the pat, and not just once.

    Usually you can get a better results by finding the bits yourself and modding only stuff that is reversible/uninstallable.

    By all means try it out, but do a Ghost image of your System first. Save the Ghost images to DVD and you can restore a broken system perfectly. Otherwise you arew likely to hit problems. yes, I did downlaod the pack a couple of months ago. No, I didn't install it. A nice theme and a few gadgets have done the trick for me.

    Incidentally, most people are now customizing to Windows 7. There's packs around for that as well

    Vishal has done a fantastic tutorial for that whcih avoids the conversion pack route, which you can find here. Impressive:

    He advises a restore point anyway. I would go one further and Ghost the system anyway and keep copies of any modified files, just in case.

    PS thee's nothing that Vista can do that XP sp3 can't do better except perhaps DX10/11. For that i would wait for Windows 7 and dual boot it with XP. The free beta ones around are good until next year sometime.
