    i think u should try re-jailbreaking. i have 4.0 firmware (and have since july) and everything works and downloads fine for me.
    heres what ive always been copying and pasteing.


    apple made it legal. to jailbreak your ipod u gotta be 3.1.2 or 4.0 firmware, if u have higher u can always "downgrade" using itunes anyway go on to SAFARI app from your ipod and go to "jailbreakme.com" and u'll be done in less then 5 minutes. its so worth it because u can get any app from the appstore that cost money for FREE, get music on your ipod FROM your ipod. download movies that are STILL in theaters. and even get 1000+ themes for your ipod. and many more. JB is the best thing i could of ever done

    ok i have jailbroken my ipod and iphone before, but redsn0w or pwnage tool aren't going to do it for firmware 3.1.2
    there is another way for mac too.

    go to http://blackra1n.com/ and click the apple on the bottom. this will
    download blackra1n.

    Launch blackra1n and plug in your ipod
    hit make it ra1n
    then your ipod will turn on and off and the program will install this app called blackra1n

    when your ipod boots up, launch the app called blackra1n
    install cydia or icy depending on which you want (note: you need to be on a wifi network to install it)
    when cydia or icy is finished you can uninstall blackra1n from your ipod
    enjoy!
