    Even the Steinberg VST plug ins are limited because they are not knows for the drum machine software.

    Look into Propellerhead's Reason if you are looking for simple drum/beat patters and easily programable drums. Most sounds are for electronica or rap/R&B. I believe it comes with patters that you can customize.

    For real drums sounds, look into Toontrack's EZDrummer. True acoustic drums for rock/alternative/country/and others. With this you can customize your drum kit, and create your patterns and fills.

    If you are only looking for a ton of pre-made beats and drum loops, look into used book stores in the software section. I just got 10,000 drum and bass loops on one disc for $10. There are plenty of gold nuggets like that in used book stores.

    Well I don't know to much about recording equipment ( I bought a cord that go's from my amp to my head set port in my computer but the sound is TERRIBLE) but I would Highly recommend downloading the free audio editing program "Audacity". It's very easy to work with and you could likely make good quality works with it.
