  1. I am extremely frustrated with trying to find an actual website that will let me download oregon trail deluxe? 2010-02-08 22:06:28

i don't have the time to give a full set of instructions, but go to thepiatebay.org and download a torrent there based on the most seeders. you'll need bittorrent from bittorrent.com, and usually you'll need 7-zip (google it, i dont remember the site name) usually the torrents will have installation instructions :)

  1. How the hell do I run Bard's Tale in DOSBox on Vista? 2012-03-20 19:41:27

OK, you have DOSBox, you have a zip file from abandonia.

    1. Extract the zip file into your oldgames folder. that would give you a directory called C:\oldgames\bard1
    2. Go to the DOSBox folder on your Start menu. There should be a folder under it called Options, inside that folder will be a "DOSBox vX.XX options" item. If you're on Vista/Win7 then you need to right-click on that and select "Run as Administrator". If you're on XP then you can just click it.
    3. It will open up an options file in Notepad. Scroll down to the very end of the file, right below the line that says "[autoexec]". There will be a few lines after that starting with #, those are just comments telling you what to do. Ignore them and go to the very end of the file.
    4. Add "mount d c:\oldgames" (without the quotes) as a new line in the file, then save the changes (File->Save menu). What this does is tells DOSBox to treat a single folder on your drive (C:\oldgames) as a DOS drive (D:\).
    5. Start DOSBox, you should see a message in the window similar to "Drive D is mounted as local directory C:\oldgames"
    6. In the DOSBox window type "D:" (without quotes) to switch to the oldgames folder, then type "CD bard1" to switch to oldgames\bard1.
    7. Type "setup" to configure your graphics settings for Bard's Tale. EGA (3) is the best option (but still crap, Commodore Amiga Bard's Tale is the best).
    8. After the settings are saved, type "bard" to run the game.

I loved Bard's Tale when I was little, and everyone should play it. If none of that makes sense PM me in the next half hour before I go to bed, otherwise I'll be happy to explain how to make it work in more detail tomorrow.

  1. Wolf the game help getting started? 2009-05-24 10:14:33

    Try one of these:

First look for a file named setup or install. If there is then double click on this and follow the instructions.

It may be ready to play so look for a file name that sounds like it may start the game. Wolf.exe or Wolf.bat or some such.

If it is compressed (zipped) then it will need uncompressing. If the file name ends with .zip or .7z or .rar or one listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_archive_formats
then they will need unzipping. If you need a program to do this then you can download this for free: http://www.7-zip.org/
