    You will have to reinstall all your apps after you upgrade. Some of them won't run on Windows 7, though GIMP/Photoshop should.

    To save you the trouble of backing up and reinstalling, use Zinstall. It's an app that takes all your stuff from the old Windows and sets it up for you on 7.

    GIMP works absolutely fine on Windows 7. I use it every day - just make sure you downloaded it from the links provided at the official website: http://www.gimp.org

    To close GIMP down, click the X in the main image window to close the whole application.

    Try restarting your computer. If you can't because it has crashed completely and frozen - hold the power button down for about 5 seconds. Then start up your computer again.

    If you are still having problems try pressing CTRL+ALT+Delete, and click Start Task Manager. Shut down any applications that are open that shouldn't be.
