    step 1 is fine, when asked which server you want just choose any the only difference is the ones with less people on it will d/l quicker.
    i haven't played platinum in a while but i don't remember having to patch it or anything so just place onto sd card and enjoy

    for rar files you have to unpack it before using try using "winRar" its awesome well after that either put it in your supercard for DS or using No$gba
