It should work. Just make sure the laptop is on and not just plugged in and also plug in your "date cable" (should be USB) to your laptop.

Sony pushed the envelope of the Palm OS as they added / had multi media features on their version of PDAs long before Palm did. I never did like Sony's use of proprietary memory (memory stick) so I never bought one though they had great features long before Palm had.
Yes, I still have my Beta video cassette recorder and I'm not going to touch HD movies until the industry sorts out the Blu Ray and HD DVD fiasco.
Because Sony had added features, they had to tweak the Palm OS to support these multi media functions.
