    They see the dead bodies and they are horrified. The dead children in there were killed "mercifully" so that they wouldn't have to face the horrors of the virals. They decide to burn the library. Unbeknownst to them, some virals have burrowed into the sand piled outside the library, to hide from the sun. When the virals feel the flames, they jump out and attack. It's either that or burn to death. The virals are harmed by their exposure to the sun, but it does take them a bit to die. So they emerge, enraged by the flames, and attack. In their berserk rage I don't think they care about the sun. I also think there may have been clouds in the sky or something? That might explain it.
