Yes, works well for the most part. But be careful though. Some obscure apps may have an IE6 tie in and you may break it. I was working on trying to get the latest Battlefield 2 Special Forces downloaded, and the EA downloader compatibility breaks when IE7 is installed.
No other problems though.

Microsoft might install the annoying "windows genuine advantage" pop-up spyware (I call it spyware) if you try to download IE7 as you are using pirated XP, and IE 7 requires validation.
No IE7 sucks. Its free but it sucks bigtime. Keep using Firefox. The latest version 3.0 is out

You're way behind. You need to get Service Pack 3, which has been out for about a year, and IE8. IE7 has been out for several years.
To update XP, click Start > Microsoft Update (or Windows Update) and get all updates marked security or marked critical. These updates should fix your problems.
